Instructor: Adrienne Newton

My love for skating started in fourth grade when a classmate had a birthday party at the local skating rink; I was hooked for life. My home rink growing up was Skate Depot in Cerritos, California (see the United Skates documentary for more information about Skate Depot). I then skated at Fountain Valley Skating Center before moving to northern California for college. In the bay area I skated primarily at Golden Skate in San Ramon. After moving to Denver in 2021 I joined the Skate City Artistic Club, taking classes and competing in the S.T.Y.L.E competition, January 2022, before leaving to pursue other interests. In my youth and teen years I took tap and jazz, and as an adult I took adult ballet and jazz at the San Francisco Dance Center, hip hop and capoeira at Mission Dance Center, and dabbled in break dancing at CELLspace, SF. My skate-related hobby is traveling to skate events around the country to meet other skaters and learn about regional skate styles.  Much like my lifelong explorations in dance, I love learning about different skate styles. Everything I learn adds to a vocabulary of movement I can put together to express myself. Learning to skate is a continual process. I learn something new about skating almost every day. I have experience teaching edible gardening to elementary school children and teaching 3D modeling software to adults at Merritt College in Oakland, California. I enjoy teaching, and I’m hoping to share skate knowledge I’ve learned that you may be curious about. I look forward to skating together!
